Once upon a time I sat down and read every single Sherlock Holmes story, and Moriarty appears only as a minor character in a single tale. That's it. He is referred to as being behind... well, everything, in a vague sense, but it's clear that he has only that moment been invented. Then they confront each other, go over the falls, and both die. Of course later on the author changed his mind and had Sherlock make a miraculous recovery, but the fact remains that Moriarty was a weak, one-dimensional character invented at the last second because someone was tired of writing stories about the same character and wanted to kill him off.

Oh, and HOORAY BONUS POINTS! Crazy Simon and Mr. Slate are indeed the ones I was thinking of. While Simon is introduced in story 49 the livestock incidents are explained in more detail LATER.sodhnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00401977288481675599noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5868677170057333329.post-1417074333429212392009-09-24T16:41:31.697-07:002009-09-24T16:41:31.697-07:00No better name comes to mind, it's just that M...No better name comes to mind, it's just that Moriarty is a canonical super-villain name for me, probably because of the Sherlock Holmes stories.

My guess for the connected characters: The guy from story 49 ("I've seen a lot of Captains make a lot of bad decisions, most involving livestock") and Mr. Slate from story 11 ("Several exhibits, including yourself, were sold to a traveling circus.").Scratch Monkeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07385517984319011510noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5868677170057333329.post-83260241132332982282009-09-24T14:27:12.696-07:002009-09-24T14:27:12.696-07:00Hmm.
